Master of Education (M.Ed.) Admission Requirements
Formal admission to the program requires (1) completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; (2) prior admission to the University of Arkansas Graduate School, involving a separate application process; (3) submission of proof of a currently valid teaching certificate; (4) a completed Educational Leadership Program Application for Admission Form; (5) at least three supporting letters of recommendation.
Admission to the Educational Leadership Program also requires: (a) an undergraduate cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher on a 4-point scale (for regular admission) or (b) an undergraduate cumulative grade point average of between 2.70 and 2.99 on all course work taken prior to receipt of a baccalaureate degree or a grade point average of 3.20 or better on the last 60 hours of course work taken prior to receipt of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution (for consideration for conditional admission). A personal interview and submission of a written statement citing extenuating circumstances warranting favorable consideration are also required for consideration for conditional admission. Students admitted conditionally must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher on the first 12 hours of graduate course work to obtain regular admission.
Education Specialist (Ed.S.) Admission Requirements
Formal admission to the Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree program requires (1) prior admission to the University of Arkansas Graduate School, which requires a separate application process; (2) a master's degree or approved equivalent; (3) a cumulative grade-point average on all graduate work attempted of at least 3.25 and an adequate score on the Millers Analogy Test (MAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE); (4) a minimum of two years of successful, relevant professional experience; (5) submission of proof of a currently valid teaching certificate; (6) a completed Educational Leadership Program Application for Admission Form; (7) at least three supporting letters of recommendation, plus a writing sample; (8) a personal interview; (9) compatibility of Educational Leadership Program offerings with the applicant’s goals and interests and (10) approval by the Committee on Graduate Studies in Education of the College of Education and Health Professions.
Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) Admission Requirements
Formal admission to the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree requires (1) prior admission to the University of Arkansas Graduate School; (2) a master's degree or approved equivalent; (3) at least two years of successful, relevant professional experience; (4) submission of proof of a currently valid teaching certificate; (5) a completed Educational Leadership Program Application for Admission Form; (6) at least three supporting letters of recommendation, plus a writing sample; (7) an autobiographical sketch; (8) a personal interview; (9) compatibility of Educational Leadership Program offerings with the applicant’s goals, interests, and background; and (10) approval by the Committee on Graduate Study in Education of the College of Education and Health Professions.
A. Regular Admission - Requires a cumulative grade-point average on all graduate work attempted of at least 3.5 and an adequate score on the Millers Analogy Test (MAT) or a Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
B. Exceptional Admission - Any applicant who fails to meet the above admission criterion for regular admission and who has a cumulative grade-point average on all graduate work attempted of at least 3.25 may apply for exceptional admission by submitting a written statement citing extenuating circumstances warranting favorable consideration. Students admitted on a exceptional basis may be required to satisfy specific conditions in order to continue enrollment in the program.
