- Outstanding leaders who have strong academic backgrounds and who possess a wide range of administrative skills are essential to the improvement of educational systems
- Educational leaders have the influence, obligation and responsibility to make a positive difference in society and to apply creative thought to both old and new challenges
- Effective educational leadership is a collaborative process that depends on establishing constructive relationships with a broad segment of society
- Highly qualified educators who are potential leaders will be identified and recruited for admission into the EDLE program
- The EDLE faculty at the U of A is committed to developing an outstanding EDLE program that is recognized throughout the state, region and nation
- EDLE faculty will be continual, lifelong learners and will possess effective communication skills and good technological skills
- EDLE faculty members will work closely as a high-performing team, holding students to high and rigorous standards in a fair and compassionate manner and be held accountable for student outcomes
Goals for Faculty:
The University of Arkansas' EDLE program area will:
- Model state-of-the-art leadership in both theory and practice
- Establish collaborative relationships with educational organizations, businesses and nonprofit organizations to facilitate the effective use of available resources to develop leadership skills offer courses accessible to students
- From various geographical locations throughout Arkansas with the aim to increase the diversity of students enrolled
- Offer carefully designed courses that utilize and model cutting-edge technology and that prepare students for an increasingly technological society
- Market courses of such quality that they will be in high demand
- Evaluate students on both performance standards and academic accomplishments
- Encourage student and staff participation in program offerings through the Arkansas Leadership Academy and the Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators and encourage continued attendance by alumni
- Provide individual attention to each student through an advisement program that involves all faculty and focuses on goals for students
Goals for Students:
The University of Arkansas will graduate educational administrators who:
- Reflect and respect diversity in experiences and backgrounds
- Implement appropriate management techniques and group processes to define roles, assign functions, generate and assign appropriate resources, delegate effectively, plan strategically, and determine accountability for the attainment of goals
- Exhibit leadership practices necessary to create and foster optimum learning environments in educational organizations
- Understand the importance of lifelong learning through participation in leadership development programs offered by state and national professional associations
- Are able to communicate effectively both within their educational organizations and throughout their communities
- Understand organizational leadership theory applicable to all types of school districts as well as non-educational organizations
- Know how to work collaboratively to develop and implement appropriate curricula that result in relevant student work projects focused on the goals of the organization
- Manifest a professional code of ethics and recognize the importance of the leader in promoting high corporate ethics
- Have a passion for student success and service to others
- Understand the importance of leadership in fostering a corporate vision that inspires excellence and continuous improvement
- Have the capability and commitment to develop a culture that fosters staff leadership within their organization
- Have the capability and commitment to create a student services/counseling environment that recognizes developmental needs and fosters emotional and social leadership and academic growth of students
